Statement by the SG Motor Cunewalde - Football Department
Dear municipality Cunewalde,
dear citizens of the Cunewalder Valley,
We, as the local club SG Motor Cunewalde – Football Department, would like to respond to the posts and incidents.
We very much regret the affixing of our club's stickers to public buildings and signs and hereby, as those responsible for the club, explicitly distance ourselves from the published letter that was addressed to the municipality and the school principal.
We would like to assure you that in producing and distributing the stickers we did not intend them to be used to cover other people's property. Rather, they are intended for collecting, trading, giving away, or sticking on homework notebooks or pencil cases. We believe many can remember collecting stickers, stamps, coins, etc. in their own childhood and the joy associated with that. That the stickers are now being used for other purposes following the example of some supporters' groups of Bundesliga clubs is not, however, within the club's area of responsibility. The defacement of our beautiful Cunewalder Valley is, as for many of you, an eyesore to us as well.
We very much regret, however, that we are being indirectly portrayed in such a negative light as a club on social media. As SG Motor Cunewalde we represent the municipality Cunewalde at tournaments and other events, and according to feedback so far this has been consistently positive. Many clubs confirm to us the positive development of youth and club activities in Cunewalde. It is very unfortunate that such posts also cast the voluntary work of many members (board members, coaches, supervisors, parents, etc.) in a very negative light. As a club we ensure that many children and young people in the village can be active in sports in their free time. We believe this is in the interest of the entire village community. Due to the threatened cuts in support—which the club is unquestionably dependent on and for which we, as those responsible, are extremely grateful—it may happen that we, as a club, might no longer be able to offer this opportunity in the future.
Furthermore, the club's commitment to many events, such as the Christmas market or the Christmas lottery, is unfortunately completely forgotten. Not to be forgotten is the voluntary maintenance of the grass pitch, which the club took over some time ago to preserve the playing facility, and thereby relieve the public works department.
In our opinion, such an issue should not be discussed on social media or other media, as it can also harm the club with regard to sponsors. We would have been very pleased if an open and constructive conversation with the club had first been sought in order to find a solution satisfactory to all.
We would like to express our willingness to actively cooperate in addressing the problem and hope that this issue will not be further debated on social media. This is not the right platform for that.
Sporting regards
