A significant step towards the future!
As already announced, the football department of SG Motor Cunewalde, together with the men's team, has decided not to compete in the Kreisoberliga in the 2021/22 season. There will be a fresh start in the Kreisliga.
Reasons for the withdrawal include, among other things, the very thin player pool in recent years, the lack of youth players and the additional costs of maintaining the grass pitch.
Since they already work with Schönbacher FV in the full-field youth sector, talks about a joint team were also initiated.
In several meetings, partly with both full squads present, they agreed to cooperate!
From now on they will compete together under the SPG Motor Cunewalde/Schönbacher FV in the Kreisliga Westlausitz. Home match venues are Cunewalde and also Schönbach!
Through the cooperation we hope for greater planning security for the future, a higher share of youth players in the men's section, increasing attendance at home matches and to be able to field a second men's team again.
After several training sessions and the first friendly match, the players have slowly come together. Training takes place alternately in Cunewalde (Tuesday) and in Schönbach (Thursday).
Let's see how things develop. The season start is scheduled for 28/29 August 2021.
Let's keep our fingers crossed!
Good luck, boys!
