Recent tournament successes of our youth
District Ranking Tournament 3
On 4 May 2025 the District Ranking Tournament 3 for youth of the Spielbezirk Ostsachsen (counties Görlitz and Bautzen) took place in Pulsnitz, including the U19 age group. Fourteen-year-old Friedemann Blümel from our table tennis department qualified for this tournament thanks to his strong performances the previous year. Ranking tournaments are very demanding table tennis events where everyone plays everyone else and players must manage their strength carefully. Friedemann fought his way to an excellent second place out of nine boys, behind Ben Gärtner from SV Eckartsberg, with a 6:2 match record. Both of his losses were decided very narrowly in the fifth and deciding set. Friedemann thus qualified for District Ranking Tournament 2 on 18 May 2025 in Burkau. He was accompanied at this tournament by our youth coach Ralf Weickert.
Unfortunately he could not start in Burkau because he had qualified with his school team from Schkola Oberland aus Eberbach-Neugersdorf for the Bundesfinale in Berlin through the school competition “Jugend trainiert für Olympia und Paralympics” in table tennis, which began that day. There the team achieved a respectable eleventh place.
Medal haul with 3x gold and 1x silver at Spartakiade
On 31 May and 1 June 2025 the children’s and youth Spartakiade of the Kreisfachverband Bautzen for girls and boys in table tennis took place in Pulsnitz. From our table tennis department Benjamin Berge competed in the U11 age group, Friedemann Blümel in the U15 age group, and Anton Lüdeke, Luca Ben Reichardt and Friedemann Blümel in the U19 age group in singles and doubles.
Benjamin took part in a tournament for the first time in the U11 age group with 15 participants, performed creditably and at least won one set in the singles competition. He unfortunately finished the group stage in last place. In doubles with his partner Nick Hartmann from SV Grün-Weiß Elstra he was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
In the Age group U15 in the singles with 12 participants Friedemann finished the group stage in first place with a 3:0 record and thus qualified for the final round. There he advanced to the final without dropping a set, which he won 3:1 against Noah Thiele from MSV Bautzen 04. He thereby won the Gold medal in the singles competition.
In the Doubles competition U15 Friedemann played together with Noah Thiele. Without losing a set they reached the final, which they won 3:0 against Arne Günther and Fritz Hermsdorf from SG Großröhrsdorf, and were able to celebrate winning the Gold medal .
In the Age group U19 (singles) with 18 participants Friedemann finished the group stage in first place without dropping a set and thus qualified for the final round. Anton narrowly missed qualification for the final round as group third with a 1:2 record. Luca unfortunately finished the group stage in fifth place with 0:4 matches, but nevertheless had a lot of fun.
Friedemann fought his way through the final round without dropping a set to the final, which he narrowly lost 1:3 to the two-years-older Lenny Aust from SG Lückersdorf-Gelenau (5:11, 11:5, 9:11, 10:12). He could nonetheless be pleased to have won the Silver medal .
In the Doubles competition U19 the Cunewald doubles pair Anton/Luca were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Edwin Marschner/Linus Ebert from MSV Bautzen 04 with a 0:3 score. Friedemann and his doubles partner Lenny Aust reached the final without dropping a set, where they won clearly 3:0 against the Bautzen pair Edwin Marschner/Linus Ebert and were rewarded with the Gold medal .
