Sensational successes at the district youth table tennis championship
The district championships of the Bautzen district association in table tennis for girls and boys in singles and doubles took place on September 13, 2025 (Youth 11 and Youth 15) and on September 14, 2025 (Youth 13 and Youth 19) in Laußnitz.
From the table tennis department of SG Motor Cunewalde Benjamin Berge took part in the Boys 13 age group, and in the Boys 19 age group Friedemann Blümel, Lenny Weickert, Richard Fiedler, Anton Lüdeke and Luca Ben Reichardt participated in the tournament. All players gave their best at all times and fought exemplary for every ball.
In the Boys 13 tournament class, 24 participants competed for the best placements. Benjamin finished the singles group stage in fourth place in his group and, unfortunately, could not win a match. Only the group winners and runners-up qualified for the final round. In the doubles competition Benjamin and his partner Willy Arnold from SG Wiednitz/ Heide lost 0:3 in the round of 16 and were eliminated.
In the Boys 19 tournament class, 38 participants started. The singles competition began with the group stage. Friedemann and Lenny, as group winners (3:0), and Richard, as group runner-up (2:1), qualified for the final round. Unfortunately Anton (third in his group with 1:2) and Luca (fourth with 0:3) did not advance from the group stage and were eliminated.
In the knockout final round Richard advanced to the round of 16, where he lost 0:3 to Finn Lehmann from MSV Bautzen 04 with very close sets and was eliminated. Lenny fought his way to the quarterfinals, where he narrowly lost 1:3 to Jonathan Holfeld from SV Weiß-Rot Schirgiswalde. The only 15-year-old Friedemann reached the final having lost only one set, where he sensationally defeated the top-seeded 18-year-old Florian Müller from SG Wiednitz/Heide 3:0 and became district champion. He could look forward to winning the gold medal, the winner’s trophy, a certificate and qualification for the district championship on October 26, 2025 in Pulsnitz. Lenny also qualified for the district championship with fifth place, which was played out among the quarterfinalists. Friedemann and Lenny, congratulations!
In the doubles competition, which was played as a knockout, Anton and Luca unfortunately lost 0:3 in the round of 32 to Filip Oswiecinski and Ben Voigtländer from SV Laußnitz and were eliminated. Lenny and Richard reached the semifinals, where they narrowly lost 2:3 to the pairing of Florian Müller/Frederik Röhl from SG Wiednitz/Heide. Thus Lenny and Richard were able to celebrate winning the bronze medal and a certificate. Friedemann and his doubles partner Nico Guhr from TTC Pulsnitz 69 fought their way to the final, which they surprisingly won 3:1 against Florian Müller and Frederik Röhl after exciting sets. Thus Friedemann and Nico were able to celebrate the district championship title, the gold medals and a certificate. Friedemann, Lenny and Richard, congratulations!
