1 Germany Soccer Cup in Bad Liebenwerda
After Elsterwerda, it was on to Bad Liebenwerda. Or something like that you could say. From the hall it was back onto the lush green. Nice that we can finally start again outdoors. At a fairly chilly -2 degrees it was a 1.5‑hour drive to the beautiful spa town Bad Liebenwerda.
Coach Riccardo Müller could count on (almost) all the "little firecrackers". Only in the goalkeeper position did we have to make a change because our Marc had to sit out today with a slight cold. Albert, however, filled in excellently. Arriving in Bad Liebenwerda, it quickly became clear that the temperatures wouldn't be much higher today. Thanks to Richi Bachmann for thinking of the warm blankets. On the field, of course none of our "little firecrackers" felt cold — they played at the usual high tempo with a very high work rate!
In the preliminary round we left nothing to chance and convinced across the board. A 1:0 win (goal by Timo Müßiggang) against Serkowitzer FSV - Männer - and a 0:0 against SV Fortschritt Meißen-West had us already greeting from the top of the table! Our best game came against the later tournament winner Radebeuler BC 08. We beat them 2:1 (Timo Müßiggang, Annalena Nixdorf)!!! Now we were fully in the tournament and wanted to reach the semi-finals. A 1:1 (Theodor Heckert) against hosts FC Bad Liebenwerda rounded off an outstanding team performance in the preliminary round.
In the quarter-final, however, the football gods abandoned us and we lost rather unluckily 0:1 to Weistropper SV / Klipphausen. We were certainly a bit disappointed about the format that was played, but it can't be changed. We also lost the "small semi-final". But you can lose 0:2 against SG Rotation Leipzig - 1950 e.V., and nobody needs to hang their heads. There were really good teams, and our coach rotated the squad thoroughly so that all the kids got something out of the trip!
There was, however, a conciliatory finish. In the match for 7th place we beat SV Fortschritt Meißen-West in the penalty shootout 3:2 (Moritz Bonk).
P.S. To the little player from SV Fortschritt who previously badly injured his foot — GET WELL SOON ❤️
