Semi-finals, here we come – C-Juniors win again in the cup
Defy the “dreary” November blues — deliver a cup fight!
The day has come! Cup quarter-final — and OUR C-youth team is still in the running.
Today’s opponent FV Ottendorf-Okrilla 05 e. V. is on paper at least the clear favorite (with a flawless record of 10 games - 10 wins and a goal difference of 73:4)!
Despite all that, there is only one motto: “No giving up” — after all, WE turn up everywhere.
With this typical November weather of 5 degrees outside and nasty rain, one should be curious who would have the better cards in the game today….
The opening phase was probing and feeling each other out with a lot of respect for the opponent on both sides.
As the game went on, FVO became bolder and a bit more dangerous, but the SGM around captain Max Lippitsch stayed highly concentrated in defense and cleared away everything that came toward the goal.
Around the middle of the match the SGM slowly got into the game as well and looked for their salvation down the wings.
In the 23rd minute it finally happened — Fynn Luca wonderfully beats his opponent and nets (somewhat surprisingly at that point) to make it 1-0 !!! Great build-up and great finish.
After that conceded goal FVO05 really had to struggle and now needed a solution. Our “reds” stood increasingly secure on their men and the spaces were defended more vigorously…
That lead held until halftime and YEEESSSS we’ll gladly take that!
In the 2nd half the visitors naturally had to open up a bit more if they wanted to equalize — but that was exactly the Seibt-Elf’s dinner bell … a long ball from the defense by Max Lippitsch to “Bomber” Fynn Luca Baumgarten… and what can I say — cleanly taken — body in — net and GOOOOAAAL! a goal of will!
Only 41 minutes were played then, so still plenty of time for the visitors to finally get something on the scoreboard. But no — in the 42nd minute it was again our No.16 who, in his ice-cold manner, slotted the ball into the FVO net!!!! 3:0 (hat-trick by Fynn) who on earth would have thought that before the match. Now it’s all clear, right?!? No no no — pie in the sky — now the visitors from Ottendorf came back a bit angry… and then it happened — the 1:3 consolation in the 43rd minute … phew now it was the cup fight every football fan dreams of! FVO pressing hard with an indirect free-kick (after an illegal back-pass to the goalkeeper) 5m from the goal line…. Run-up — shot …. SAVED — yessss that was so important!!!! Ok and what followed was once again Fynn Luca’s game: once more the Man of the Match got past his opponent and scored superbly to make it 4:1!
That should have been it — basically — but you have to say the Ottendorf lads NEVER gave up and really tried everything — but the SGM bulwark held firm and conceded no further goals until the final whistle!!!
The rest was pure joy, relief and a healthy dose of pride in what had been achieved on this Sunday morning; a really very good cup game from BOTH teams was watched by just over 50 spectators and, with mulled wine, tea or even a beer, we defied this lousy weather!
Thanks to our organising team who put up 4 pavilions today, we didn’t get quite so soaked!
