Silver at the Men's District Table Tennis Championship

Silver at the Men's District Table Tennis Championship
On 26 November 2025 the district championships for men and women of East Saxony (Bautzen and Görlitz counties) took place in Neusalza-Spremberg. From our table tennis section of SG Motor Cunewalde the 15‑year‑old Friedemann Blümel, who plays in the club’s first men’s team in the Bezirksklasse, had qualified for this tournament. Unfortunately there were only three participants in the women’s event, while 24 players started in the men’s event.

In the group stage of the men’s singles Friedemann Blümel finished third with a 1–2 record, thus missing out on qualification for the final round, since only the group winners and runners‑up advanced. Friedemann played very good table tennis: he beat Mario Fröhlich of MSV Bautzen 04 (2. Bezirksliga) 3–1, narrowly lost 2–3 to Landesliga player Sven Rudolph of TTC Pulsnitz 69 and was defeated 1–3 by Niklas Thiele of TuS 1890 Gersdorf‑Möhrsdorf (1. Bezirksliga). The district champion was surprisingly 15‑year‑old Sachsenliga player Alfons Tietze of Post SV Görlitz, ahead of runner‑up Michael Döcke (MSV Bautzen 04) and the third‑placed Lenny Tschirner (TTC Neusalza‑Spremberg 02) and Sven Rudolph (TTC Pulsnitz 69).

In the doubles competition Friedemann partnered with Alfons Tietze. There were many spectacular rallies in this event as well. In the round of 16 Friedemann and Alfons won 3–2 against the strong Landesliga pairing Holger Weß/Erwin Tank of MSV Bautzen 04; in the exciting quarterfinals they achieved a sensational 3–2 victory against the also very strong Landesliga pair Sven Rudolph/Andreas Milde of TTC Pulsnitz 69. Friedemann and Alfons won the semifinal surprisingly convincingly 3–0 against Paul Gutsche (Landesliga)/Maik Günther (1. Bezirksliga) of MSV Bautzen 04. Thus they qualified for the final, which they lost 1–3 to the pair Lenny Tschirner/Patrick Neumann (both 1. Bezirksliga, TTC Neusalza‑Spremberg 02). Friedemann and Alfons were able to celebrate winning the silver medal. Third place was claimed, alongside the Bautzen pairing Paul Gutsche/Maik Günther, by the Pulsnitz pairing Sandro Rudolph/Falk Stuhlmacher (photo of the doubles awards ceremony: from left to right: Friedemann Blümel, Alfons Tietze, Patrick Neumann, Lenny Tschirner, Maik Günther, Paul Gutsche, Sandro Rudolph; Falk Stuhlmacher is missing). Friedemann was coached for this tournament by Stefan Blümel.
