Gerd‑Höhne‑Cup 2026 – SG Motor Cunewalde writes a small football fairy tale in the Märchenwaldarena.

The Märchenwaldarena in Zodel lived up to its name on Saturday – from SG Motor Cunewalde’s perspective the tournament unfolded like a sporting fairy tale. With passion, courage and an impressive team spirit, the F‑Junioren claimed 1st place at the Gerd‑Höhne‑Cup and made a strong statement in regional youth football. Already in the first group match against BSG Sohland-Oppach, SG Motor Cunewalde left no doubt that they would play a major role that day. With a 4:1 win the young Motor‑Kicker showed a blend of joy in playing, pace and a clear drive to goal.

Also in the second match against FSV 1990 Neusalza-Spremberg the team stuck to its game plan: again 4:1, again a commanding performance. The defense was solid, transitions worked well, and up front Cunewalde took their chances with clinical efficiency.

Only in the third group match against the strong @Seer Wölfe F. C. did they suffer a minor setback – a 2:3 loss that nevertheless did not dampen the team’s momentum. With 6 points and a 10:5 goal record, SG Motor Cunewalde advanced to the semi-finals as the second-placed team in the group.

In the semi-final they faced none other than SSV Germania Görlitz, the preliminary round dominator, who had finished their group with 9 points and an impressive goal difference of 11:1. But Cunewalde demonstrated what a team can achieve when heart and will overpower any statistic.

In a gripping match, SG Motor Cunewalde really turned it on, fought for every ball and repeatedly launched dangerous thrusts forward. In the end a 3:2 victory stood on the board, a result that made the Märchenwaldarena tremble briefly – a moment that perfectly reflected this team’s character.

In the final the hosts SV Zodel 68 awaited, having previously beaten the Seer Wölfe. However, the Motor‑Kicker left no doubt that they intended to take the trophy back to Cunewalde.

With an impressive 4:1 win in the final, SG Motor Cunewalde crowned their strong tournament performance. Offensively versatile, defensively focused and with remarkable collective unity – the boys and girls played a final not often seen at this age group.

On that day SG Motor Cunewalde showed not only good football but also the values that define youth sport: team spirit, fairness, passion and the ability to come back stronger after setbacks.

The tournament victory at the Gerd‑Höhne‑Cup is therefore more than a sporting success – it is a sign of how much potential this team holds and how excellently the children are supported and developed within the club.

Many thanks to the boys and girls, the coaches and the travelling parents and fans who supported the children in tropical temperatures.
