SG Motor Kids-Cup 2022 — F and E Youth, Part 1
The long wait and the final worrying (quarantine conditions at our schools during the week) had come to an end. This weekend finally saw our own tournament weekend on the programme. With many phone calls and a few WhatsApp messages, we still managed to bring 10 teams from near and far to the venerable „Eichberg“ for our F-youth tournament on Saturday. After the obligatory snow shower around 08:00 the teams slowly trickled in. Yes, it was still rather chilly, but ALL the kids were fired up and wanted to finally kick the ball.
The tournament was played in tournament mode with 2 groups of 5 teams each.
Cunewalde Team 1 was immediately matched up in the opener against FSV Budissa Bautzen e.V. — while Team 2 faced TSV Herwigsdorf 1891 in the parallel game.
Team 1 got off to a great start and immediately cemented the favorite role, 4:0 (Timo, Albert and 2x Theodor) was the final score against the Bautzen side!
Team 2 visibly had more trouble but still got into the tournament in world-class fashion. 1:0 (Derek with his 1st goal in the SGM shirt) was the final score against the bravely fighting Herwigsdorf boys and girls!
Against SSV Germania Görlitz our Team 1 really let nothing go wrong and deservedly won 7:0 (3x Moritz, 2x Theodor, Timo and Albert)!!!
Team 2 met SC Großschweidnitz- Löbau and made it a bit more exciting — 1:0 (Adrian) was the final score — but HEY, the celebration was of course huge!!!
Today a double victory seemed possible and that boosted the motivation immeasurably.
After the fairly clear 8:0 (2x Albert, 4x Theodor, 2x Moritz) against Holtendorfer SV, Team 1 was greeting from the top of the table and could no longer be displaced!
Team 2, however, unfortunately ran out of steam and lost the last two group games against SV Oberland Spree and Königswarthaer SV (0:2 and 0:2). Thus they unfortunately only played for 7th place, but still left with heads held high.
Team 1, on the other hand, wanted to advance to the semi-finals unbeaten and give the Czech representatives FK Varnsdorf a.s. a good fight. We of course know that proper football is learned in our neighboring country, but it was hard to prepare for. Lots of physical play and tough duels demanded everything from our "little grenades". In the end they had to accept a 0:3 defeat. Still: first place in the group and semi-final!
Incredible performance so far!!!
The 7th-place match for our second team was then narrowly lost to SSV Germania Görlitz, 0:1. So 8th place for our second little grenades.
Team 1 still had every chance to bring the coveted medal home…
In the semi-final against Königswarthaer SV things got pretty physical and the team had to find its own game again at first. Coach Riccardo Müller, however, quickly found the right (motivation) words and they won the match 2:0 (Theodor and Timo)!!! FINAL — the relief was enormous…. now it was once again against FK Varnsdorf (they had beaten Oberland/Spree only in a penalty shootout) and the respect was of course very, very big!!!
The final swung back and forth, with chances on both sides. Again many duels in midfield and impressive combinations delighted our spectators! Marc saved the 0:0 for us at the end and so the penalty shootout had to decide. Oh dear, there's always a good portion of luck involved…. BUT this time it was enough for our "little grenades" thanks to Moritz's double and Albert’s confidently buried shot to win the tournament!!! 3:2 at the end of a truly top-class F-youth tournament at Cunewäldner „Eichberg“
WE ARE PROUD OF YOU
The second highlight, however, was the selection of the "Allstar" team! The seven best players were honored. They were:
Fabian Paukstadt SG Motor Cunewalde II
Jakub Novotny FK Varnsdorf
Emil Putzmann TSV 1891 Herwigsdorf
Timo Keller Holtendorfer SV
Pelé Barthel Königswartha SV
Lenny Engler SC Großschweidnitz - Löbau
Theodor Heckert SG Motor Cunewalde I
But don't be sad — "You were ALL great"!!!! Keep at it and carry on.
With hot dogs, red lemonade and the odd piece of cake the results quickly became secondary and everyone was happy to be able to KICK AGAIN at last…..
WE, the "youth department" of SG Motor Cunewalde, thank ALL helpers, sponsors, teams, spectators and fans for this "AWESOME" morning!!!!
….more to come in part 2, so stay tuned
